What is an apprenticeship?

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study. An apprentice will:

  • work alongside experienced staff
  • gain job-specific skills
  • earn a wage and get holiday pay
  • be given time for study related to their role (the equivalent of one day a week)

Click here for a leaflet with an overview about apprenticeships.

Although not all apprenticeships are available in all parts of the country, for an up to date list of all UK apprenticeship standards please see: www.instituteforapprenticeships.org

What apprenticeships are available?

There is a huge range of apprenticeships available in the UK and at all different levels. This leaflet gives more detail about this.
